The Gorge begins a short distance from the village of Exo Mouliana and comes out at the Richti beach of the same name.
The entire length is approximately 3 kilometers and the hypsometrical difference between entrance and exit is approximately 350 meters.
The gorge can be traversed on foot, by anyone, within three to four hours. The route starts at the Arched stone bridge of Lachana(19th century)
The walk takes you through lush, wooded areas and a river,an oasis in the middle of Eastern Crete.The real highlight of the walk is the stunning 20 foot high waterfall that forms the most beautiful natural pool.
Your walk concludes beautifully as you exit the Gorge, looking out onto the Cretan Pelagos.There are plenty of stone seats and tables on the lovely pebbly Richti beach as well as a stone drinking fountain that has fresh water all year round.
