The Monasteries are amazing monuments of architectural and artistic merit and besides housing woodcarvings and holy scriptures are places that are indissolubly bound to local History and Tradition.The most significant Monasteries are Toplou Monastery, where there are two museums containing ecclesiastical objects and engravings, Kapsa Monastery, perched on the Eastern slopes of the craggy rockface of a gorge in the south of the prefecture, Fanomereni Monastery in Pachi Ammos, Cristallenia and Vidianis monasteries on Lassithi Plateau and Selinari ,Areti, Kremaston, Koufi Petra and St Anthony’s to be found in the outlying districts of Neapolis village.
