The Diktean Antron Cave is situated on the Northern side of Dikti mountain,above the village of Psychro on Lassithi Plateau at an altitude of 1020 metres above sea level.
It is considered to be the most important cave of international renown and is of great mythological and archaeological interest.
The route up to the Cave is amazing, since there is a panoramic view of The Lassithi Plateau.If you do not wish to walk,donkeys are available to carry visitors up to the cave.
Most researchers identify the Psychro Cave as being the famous Diktean Andron in Mythology and as mentioned by Isodios, the birthplace of Dias,where he was nurtured with the aid of Amaltheias and the Demons.It was for this reason that it was called the Bethlehem of the Ancient World.
This same Cave is linked to stories such as the one by Mandy Epimenidi, about the union of Dias with Europa and the birth of the Minos and the Harpies.
